[10-15-2022] Microsoft Rewards Bing Homepage Quiz Question: Here is the final resting place of four Persian kings. Where are we?

The given options are:

  • Iran
  • Syria
  • Turkey

Correct Answer: Iran

Fact: Naqsh-e Rostam is an ancient archeological site and necropolis located about 12 km northwest of Persepolis in Fars Province, Iran. The tombs are cut high above the ground into the face of a cliff and are sometimes called the Persian crosses due to the shape of their façades. This site is of great significance to the history of Iran and Iranians, as it contains various archeological sites carved into the rock wall over time for more than a millennium, from the Elamites and Achaemenids to Sassanians. Well below the Achaemenid tombs, near ground level, are rock reliefs with large figures of Sassanian kings, some meeting gods, others in combat. The oldest relief at Naqsh-e Rostam dates back to c. 1000 BC. The placing of these reliefs suggests the Sassanid intention to link themselves with the glories of the earlier Achaemenid Empire.
