How to Find Google Analytics Tracking code

Once you have added your website to the Google Analytics portal, the next step is to find your tracking code so you can monitor and analyze your website’s traffic. In this post, I will walk you through the steps to locate your Google Analytics tracking code (Tracking ID).

Steps to Find Your Google Analytics Tracking Code:

  • Log in to your Google Analytics account.
  • Go to the Admin panel by clicking the gear icon in the bottom-left corner.
  • Under the section ‘Property settings‘, click on ‘Data Streams‘ under the column ‘Data collection and modification‘ (figure below).
Data Streams
  • On the next page, select your desired ‘Data Stream‘ (e.g., your website).
Web Stream Details
  • On the ‘Web Stream Details‘ page, look for the ‘Google tag‘ section (figure above) and click on ‘View Tag Instructions‘. You will be taken to the ‘Installation Instructions‘ page (figure below).
    • If your website uses a supported CMS (like WordPress, Shopify, etc.), you can click on the relevant option to integrate the tag easily.
    • If you don’t use any of the listed CMS platforms, select the ‘Install Manually‘ tab. You will see a JavaScript code snippet.
Analytics code
  • Copy the entire JavaScript tracking code and paste it into the section of your website’s HTML on every page you want to track.
