Currently my website shows the default WordPress icon as site icon (favicon, or favorite icon). I want to change it to make it based on my logo. Other than uploading ".ico" image to the WordPress installation folder, what can I do to change the site icon?

You can change the site icon of your website from the Admin dashboard of WordPress. Follow the following steps to change it:

  • Log in to your WordPress Dashboard.
  • Navigate to "Settings" > "General" in the sidebar menu.
  • Under "General Settings", you will find the "Site Icon" section. (The Site Icon is what you see in browser tabs, bookmark bars, and within the WordPress mobile apps. It should be square and at least 512 by 512 pixels)
  • Click on "Choose a Site Icon" to upload a new favicon or choose an existing image from the Media Library. WordPress may prompt you to crop the image to ensure it fits the favicon size requirements. If you do not make any adjustments, it will automatically set the size and icon.
  • Click on the "Save Changes" button on the "General Settings" page to save it.
